A diary of an artist caught between the reality and dream; outter and inner worlds; starting and finishing a work; making and becoming the work itself.

Her rat called Retina had beady red eyes. When she ventured into the outside, Retina came with her. Whispering secrets into her noise cancelling headphones.

In this muted world they both glowed red.
People asked why?
But she didn’t really know.

H 29.7 x W 21 cm x D 90gsm-ish
2019

Toes numb with the bitter cold. The thin crackling surface of ice puddles. At the Lidl cashier, she drifts upwards, into day-dreams and unfulfilled fantasies. For a minute, gravity slipped on the ice.

Liquid- a languid form. Shamelessly unrestrained, overflowing upon other forms. A seeping, trickling and all absorbing curiosity. Likes to sleep when held with a contained steadiness.

A woven web of choices, paths, encounters, knots and breaks. Each story a tapestry of sticky strings and stings.

Elizabeth Farm Museum, NSW, Australia
Echoes of my childhood scurried around this historic house museum. I grew up with creaky furniture like these and pianos with dead keys.

Why do grown-ups forget, this world is our playground?

audio collage from:
Scarlett Street
Film / 1945
  • o   ”How long does it take you to paint a picture?”
  • -   “Well, sometimes a day, sometimes a year. You can’t tell. It has to grow.”
o   “I never knew paint could grow”
    -   “A feeling grows. You know, that’s the important thing: feeling. Well, nobody ever taught me how to draw. So, I just put a line around what I feel when I look at things.”
    o   “Yeh, I see.”
    -   “It like, erh... It’s like falling in love, I guess. Every painting, if it’s any good, is a love affair.”
o   “I never heard anyone talk like that before.”

Her palm aches when she’s sad. Lines of time, tangled in the memories. We all share these loopy lines on our fingertips.

All four corners of the heart pumping, valves open, leaking tap, empty air. Wanting love with a passion to fill the emptiness.

Quietly she emerged from the dark corners. A friendly freak looking for her kindred and in kind. Who knows themselves whole? Writing our stories in the dark. Delcate lines and direction reaches towards where our focus pulls.
